ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon arriving at Kathmandu International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and assist you to check in to the hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore this historic and vibrant city. Later, join in for a welcome dinner program.

Day 2: Kathmandu sightseeing

After breakfast, embark on a full-day sightseeing tour of the Kathmandu Valley. Begin at Durbar (Palace) Square, the heart of religious and cultural life, featuring old temples and historical landmarks with magnificent Newari architecture. Highlights include Kal Bhairav, Hanuman Dhoka, Taleju Temple, Kasthamandap, and Kumari Ghar, the residence of the Living Goddess.

Next, visit Swayambhunath Stupa, one of the world’s oldest Buddhist stupas, perched high on a hill overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. Proceed to Pashupatinath Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located alongside the holy Bagmati River. While only Hindus can enter the temple’s courtyard, tourists can view it from the eastern bank of the river.

Later, visit Boudhanath, one of the world’s largest Buddhist stupas. This massive structure features four pairs of eyes, each facing a cardinal direction, symbolizing vigilance and human prosperity. After exploring the valley, return to your accommodation. In the evening, attend a brief orientation regarding the trek.

Day 3: Fly to Lukla to Phakding

After breakfast, catch a flight to Lukla. The flight offers stunning views of lush woodlands and the expansive mountain range before landing in the hilltop settlement of Lukla. After a brief rest, begin your trek to the picturesque village of Phakding.

Descending past farmlands, you will pass through the Sherpa villages of Chheplung, Ghat, Sano, and Thulo Gumela. Along the way, visit the ancient Drangdrak Gompa and Pema Choling Gompa, with breathtaking views of the sacred mountain Kumbila and the twin peaks of Kusum Kanguru in the background. Following a trail through lush woodlands, you will arrive at the settlement of Phakding.

Day 4: Trek to Namche

Today, you’ll head to the Sherpa capital and economic hub of the region. Begin by traversing through the villages of Zamphute and Tok Tok, where you’ll enjoy dazzling views of Thamserku glistening in the morning sun, a sight that accompanies you for much of the trek. Continue through the scenic Sherpa villages of Benkar, Chumoa, and Monjo. Along the way, visit the Utche Choling Gompa, situated on a bluff overlooking the Dudh Koshi River.

Next, proceed to the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. After your permits are inspected, continue the trek. Traverse steep slopes towards Namche Bazaar, crossing through the last village of Jorsale and then an impressive high bridge over the Dudh Koshi River gorge. Just before this bridge, the Dudh Koshi meets its tributary, the Bhote Koshi.

As you gain altitude, catch your first glimpse of Mt. Everest peering over the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. Finally, after about 1.5 km (0.9 miles), you will reach the settlement of Namche Bazaar.

Day 5: Acclimatize at Namche Bazaar

Due to the thin air at higher altitudes, proper acclimatization is crucial to allow your body to adapt. Namche Bazaar, the largest market in the Everest region, is situated at an altitude of 3,420 meters on the lap of the Khumbu Himal range. It serves as the major regional trading center and hosts the headquarters of Everest National Park.

Before dawn, head to a vantage point to savor the views of snowy peaks bathed in the rays of the rising sun. After lunch, visit the Army post, which also serves as the Sagarmatha National Park Headquarters. From here, enjoy breathtaking views of the Mahalangur range. To the west, see the Kwangde range, and to the southeast, a succession of high peaks including Kusum Kanguru with its three summits, Thamserku, and Kangtega. To the north, Khumbila peak rises prominently, while Change Ragi and Pharchamo soar to the right of Kwangde.

Day 6: Trek to Khumjung

After breakfast head towards the picturous settlement of Khumjung nestled at an elevation of 3,790 meters on the laps of the holy Mountain Khumbila. The settlement is widely known as the “ Valley inside the clouds”. Traversing across the ridge section you will reach the settlement. The village is marked with Mani stones and Stupas. Upon reaching Khumjung head towards the Khumjung Monastery which houses what is said to be a yeti scalp. Next head towards the school established by Sir Edmund Hillary. After that head towards the Khunde Monastery nestled at the backdrop of Kunde Khumjung and Khumbiyela Mountains. After exploring head back towards your tea house.

Day 7: Trek to Pangboche

Start the trek descending gradually to the village of Teshinga. From there following the steep descent cross the river network and head towards the tiny settlement of Phunki Thangkha nestled at an elevation of 3250 meters. Next head on an uphill section covered with the deep wilderness of the region, as you progress past a series of Mani walls, you will reach Thyangboche at an elevation of 3867 meters. From here witness a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding mountains including Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam.
Thyangboche has long been a sacred place for the people of Khumbu. According to the legends Lama Sange Dorje, who first established Buddhism in the region, is said to have flown from his monastery in Tibet over the Himalayas, landing here at Pangboche.
From Thyangboche descending through lush cider and rhododendron forests with miles of undergrowth, you will cross a high suspension bridge over the rushing icy waters of the Dudh Koshi. Next following an uphill climb you will reach the settlement of Pangboche at 3985 meters providing perfect views of the Ama Dablam ahead.

Day 8: Trek to Ama Dablam Base Camp and back to Pangboche

Today, you will traverse the exotic and unspoiled trails of the Khumbu region. Wake up early and visit the ancient monastery to witness the morning prayer. After breakfast, head towards the base of Ama Dablam. Follow the downhill trail towards the banks of the Imja Khola. After crossing the bridge, trek uphill for a couple of hours. As you progress, the trail leads to high Himalayan pasturelands and a small lake. Continue on a gradual climb until you reach Ama Dablam Base Camp.

From the base camp, take in views like never before, including Lhotse, Nuptse, Lobuche, Thamserku, Cholatse, and numerous other majestic peaks. You’ll also see glacier streams flowing through the green meadows. After lunch and exploring the base camp, retrace your steps back to Pangboche.

Day 9: Trek to Monjo

After breakfast, begin your trek by descending and eventually crossing the river. Along the trail, enjoy views of the landscapes, local Sherpa settlements, high farmlands, and monasteries until you reach the settlement of Monjo. After checking in, leave your backpack at your tea house and head out to interact with the local inhabitants.

Day 10: Trek back Lukla

Following the downward trail towards the river basin and an uphill stretch, you will reach Tengboche. From Tengboche, enjoy breathtaking views of Everest, Nuptse, and Lhotse. Next, descend to Phunki Tenga before climbing through the settlements of Teshinda and Kyanjuma. Following the high trail above the Dudh Koshi river, head towards Namche Bazaar. After a brief rest at Namche Bazaar, follow the Dudh Koshi south through a deep wilderness of rhododendron and pine forests, passing Jorsale, Monzo, and Benkar to Chaunrikhara. From here, leave the main trail and climb a short ridge section towards Lukla. At Lukla, celebrate your last night in the mountains and the completion of your trek.

Day 11: Fly back Kathmandu

After breakfast with the mountains, make your way to the Lukla airstrip and catch a flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, proceed to your accommodation, and later, take some time to explore the city and purchase gifts and souvenirs for your friends and family. In the evening, join in for a Farewell dinner program to celebrate the success of your trek.

Day 12: Fly back home or extend your Holidays

Today, you’ll have leisure time until your departure flight. A representative from the Alpine Club of Himalaya will drop you off at the airport three hours before your flight departs.
