ITINERARY
Day1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Arrive at Kathmandu International Airport where you’ll be warmly welcomed by our representative from The Alpine Club of Himalayas. Once you check in at your hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore.
Day 2: Fly to Lukla to Phakding
Take an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Once you reach Lukla, head towards upper Phakding. Descend through farmlands and pass through the Sherpa villages of Chheplung, Ghat, Sano, and Thulo Gumela. Along the way, you’ll encounter numerous shrines and monasteries, including Drangdrak Gompa and Pema Choling Gompa. The backdrop features breathtaking views of the sacred mountain Kumbila and the sister summits of Kusum Kanguru, one of the unclimbed peaks in the region.
Day 3: Trek to Namche
Head towards Namche Bazaar, crossing through the hamlets of Zamphute and Tok Tok. As you continue on the trail, witness the dazzling Thamserku glistening in the morning sun. Passing through the scenic Sherpa villages of Benkar, Chumoa, and Monjo, you’ll reach Utche Choling Gompa. A further ascent brings you to the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
From here, the climb becomes steep and challenging. Crossing through the last village of Jorsale, you’ll navigate steep terrain leading to an impressive high bridge over the Dudh Koshi River gorge. Beginning the final uphill stretch, you’ll gradually reach the heights of Namche Bazaar. Here, you’ll get your first glimpse of Mt. Everest, peering over the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. After about 1.5 km (0.9 miles), you’ll arrive at the settlement of Namche Bazaar.
Day 4: Trek Tengboche
From Namche, take the easy trail that skirts the ridge from Chhorkung. Along the way, enjoy a magnificent panorama of peaks including Thamserku, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Everest. Following this trail, you’ll reach Kyangjuma at 3,550 meters. A short walk from here leads to an important trail junction at Sanasa (3,600m). Take the trail to Tengboche, which gently descends toward the river.
The trail gradually drops to Lawichasa, with Mt. Ama Dablam towering above. From Lawichasa, a narrow trail branches north toward Tashinga (3,380m), then descends steeply on stone steps to Phunki Thenga (3,250m), where you’ll cross a bridge.
From the bridge, the trail climbs past water-powered prayer wheels and begins a sustained ascent through a woodland of rhododendrons. Keep an eye out for musk deer and Himalayan Thar among the trees. Continue along the path, and you’ll encounter Mani walls and a pair of chortens. Tengboche village begins on a wide, grassy saddle below a crescent-shaped ridge covered with scrub pines and rhododendrons. The focal point of Tengboche is the renowned Tengboche Monastery. After checking in at your tea house, visit the monastery and explore the area.
Day 5: Trek Dingboche
From Tengboche, follow the trail through a dense forest of conifers and rhododendrons. Keep an eye out for Himalayan monals and musk deer along the way. The trail will lead you to the settlement of Debuche. In Debuche, visit the Debuche Gompa, which features some expressive old thangkas and murals painted on wooden panels. Next, head towards a small Buddhist nunnery on the eastern hillside.
From Debuche, the trail continues through a dense forest to reach Milinggo, then drops steeply to a suspension bridge over the Imja Khola. After crossing the bridge, climb the opposite hillside to a white stupa. A hundred yards further, you’ll see a grander stupa set against the backdrop of the towering Mt. Ama Dablam at the end of the valley. East of the stupa is a footprint of Khumbu’s patron, Lama Sange Dorje.
Continue along the trail to Pangboche village, home to the oldest monastery in the Khumbu region, Pangboche Gompa, founded by Lama Sange Dorje. Following the Imja Khola, the trail climbs towards the village of Shomare, where the woodland ends. Beyond this village, you’ll traverse an arid stretch of alpine terrain with patches of scrub, isolated pasture lands, and high meadows. Passing through pasture lands and herdsmen’s stone huts at Orsho and Tsuro Wog, the trail then descends near the confluence of Imja Khola and Khumbu Khola. Finally, after climbing a low ridge, you’ll reach the sprawling settlement of Dingboche, a cold and windy place with sub-zero night temperatures even in summer.
Day 6: Trek Lobuche
On the trail to Lobuche, you’ll find yourselves truly in the heart of the Himalayan giants, with awe-inspiring views all around. Follow the trail and pass through Dusa, where you’ll come across herdsmen’s abandoned stone huts. Next, head toward Chupki Lhara, where you’ll see a large pile of stones adorned with prayer flags, a memorial for mountaineers who perished attempting to climb Mt. Everest.
From Chupki Lhara, the trail descends to the Khumbu glacier moraine, where you’ll have a clear view of three magnificent peaks: Khumbutse, Lingtren, and Pumori directly ahead. Walking the final steps alongside a murmuring stream, you’ll arrive at the village of Lobuche.
Day 7: Trek Gorak Shep and EBC and back to Gorak Shep
Today’s trek is long and tough. The trail begins with a gentle walk on grassy terrain dotted with scattered boulders, all the while offering views of the snowy walls of towering mountains ahead. After ascending 60 meters (200 feet), you’ll reach the top of the lateral moraine wall of the Changri glacier, a level spot called Thangma Riju. From here, you’ll enjoy a spectacular 360-degree panorama of the surrounding mountains, including Taboche, Lobuche peaks, Pumori, the Mahalangur Himal range, and Changtse in Tibet with Nuptse dominating the eastern horizon.
The trail then crosses the moraine of the Changri glacier, which joins the Khumbu glacier from the west. From here, you’ll climb a steep and stony slope towards Gorak Shep. Upon reaching Gorak Shep, leave your heavy backpacks and head towards Everest Base Camp.
Walking by the shallow blue waters of Gorak Shep Lake, you’ll see Changtse peak in Tibet and the Lho La depression straight ahead. Cross several glaciers, icefalls, frozen pools of meltwater, exposed icy walls, and large boulders to finally reach Everest Base Camp, where trekking ends and mountaineering begins. After spending a brief time at the base camp, descend back to Gorak Shep.
Day 8: Trek Kala Patthar
Finally, this is your date with Everest, the climax of the trek. Start after an early breakfast, taking your time as you cross the wide sandy bed of a dried-up lake and ascend the steep zigzag terrain of a ridge. As you climb, enjoy views of Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse. Higher up, you’ll be treated to grand views of the Khumbu glacier and Nuptse massif, leading you to the rocky viewpoint of Kala Patthar. At the summit, you’ll witness an unparalleled mountain panorama, including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Changtse, Pumori, Ama Dablam, Chumbu, Thamserku, Kangtega, Taboche, and Lobuche.
After spending some time at the summit, descend back down, retracing your steps through Gorak Shep and Lobuche. From Dughla, instead of heading back towards Dingboche, you’ll descend to Pheriche along the Khumbu Khola.
Day 9: Trek back Namche Bazar
From Pheriche, the trail descends to Tsuro Wog after crossing the bridge over the Khumbu Khola, offering great mountain views in the background. From Tsuro Wog, begin your descent, passing through Orsho, Shomare, and upper Pangboche, and finally arriving at the settlement of Tengboche. Here, visit the Tengboche monastery, the largest gompa in Khumbu. From Tengboche, continue towards Phunki Tenga, then descend to Sanasa and Kyangjuma, and finally make your way to Namche Bazaar.
Day 10: Trek back Lukla
Today, start walking towards Namche Bazaar on a downhill trail along the Dudh Koshi River route, crossing multiple suspension bridges and passing through various ancient monasteries and settlements on your way to Lukla. Once you arrive in Lukla, rest and celebrate your last day in the mountains.
Day 11: Fly back to Kathmandu
After an early breakfast, head to Lukla Airport and fly back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll be driven to your accommodation. This is a leisure day, so you may stroll around the city or buy gifts and souvenirs for your friends and family. Later in the evening, join a special dinner program to mark the end of your adventure with your guide and our representatives.
