ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative from the Alpine Club of Himalaya will be there to assist you with your accommodation arrangements. Once you reach your hotel, take some time to rest and refresh. In the evening, participate in a special dinner program where you’ll indulge in delicious Nepalese cuisine.

Day 2 : Fly to Lukla trek to Phakding

After breakfast, make your way to the domestic airport and board a flight bound for Lukla, renowned as the gateway to the Everest region. The exhilarating flight offers breathtaking views as you soar amidst the majestic Himalayas. Upon touchdown at Lukla and a brief stop, commence your trek.

Descending along the trail, you’ll soon arrive at the village of Cheplung, where you can behold the awe-inspiring sight of Mt. Khumbila, revered as the “God of Khumbu.” This sacred peak is off-limits for climbing, adding to its mystique as one of the few unclimbed summits in the region. Continuing onward from Cheplung, traverse through lush woodlands along a descending path leading to Phakding.

Day 3 : Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Today’s journey takes you to Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital and bustling economic center of the region, offering a range of amenities from basic to luxurious. Begin your trek by navigating through the dense wilderness of the Khumbu region, passing through the hamlets of Zamphute and Tok Tok. Traverse varied terrain, including uphill and downhill stretches, and cross several suspension bridges spanning the rushing waters of the Dudh Koshi River. Along this route, marvel at the majestic Mt. Thamserku (21,675ft) and pass through the settlements of Benkar and Chumoa.

Continuing onward, you’ll arrive at the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park in Monjo. After your permits are checked, embark on a challenging uphill climb towards Namche Bazaar, ascending steep paths and crossing a high bridge offering views of the Dudh Koshi River gorge. As you gain elevation, be rewarded with breathtaking vistas of Everest, Lhotse, Tawache, and other towering peaks. Upon reaching Namche, make your way to your accommodation to unwind and rest.

Day 4 : Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar

Today is dedicated to acclimatization, a crucial process at higher altitudes to allow your body to adjust to the thinner air. Namche Bazaar offers various vantage points ideal for acclimatization hikes.

Before dawn, venture out to witness the mesmerizing Himalayan sunrise while strolling around the village. Following breakfast, embark on a journey towards the settlement of Khumjung. Begin by traversing a U-shaped hill above Namche Bazaar, treating yourself to spectacular views of Kwangde, Khumbila, Thamserku, Tagi Tau, and Pharchamo, as well as glimpses of Ama Dablam and Taboche. Upon reaching an intersection, take the right trail, passing by a large Chorten and a series of mani walls leading to the renowned “EVEREST VIEW HOTEL,” one of the highest-altitude hotels globally. Enjoy lunch here amidst panoramic vistas of Lhotse, Lhotse Shar (East) peak, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, and Taboche.

After lunch, proceed to visit the Khumjung School, founded by Sir Edmund Hillary. Continue your exploration to the Khumjung Monastery, majestically nestled in a cedar grove in the upper part of the village. Inside the monastery, you’ll find an image of Guru Padmasambhava, flanked by his consorts, as well as a preserved skull believed by lamas to belong to the yeti. After immersing yourself in the monastery’s ambiance, return to Namche and enjoy the sunset views from the porch of your tea house.

Day 5 :Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

After breakfast, set out on your trek towards Tengboche. The initial part of the trail leads you along an easy path, cutting around the ridge from Chhorkung to reach the end of a bluff zone. Here, you’ll be treated to a magnificent panorama of mountain peaks, spanning from Thamserku to Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and the majestic Everest.

Continuing along the trail, you’ll arrive at the village of Kyangjuma, situated at an elevation of 3550 meters. From Kyangjuma, a brief walk brings you to an important trail junction at Sanasa. From here, follow the trail towards Lawichasa, gently descending towards the river. Along this stretch, enjoy picturesque views of the thumb-like peak of Ama Dablam soaring above the trail. At Lawichasa, a narrow trail branches north towards Tashinga (3380m), before descending steep stone steps to Phunki Thenga (3250m) and crossing a bridge.

From the bridge, the trail ascends past water-powered prayer wheels and enters a forest of tall, mature rhododendrons. Keep an eye out for wildlife as you progress through this section. Emerging from the dense wilderness, you’ll reach a Kani gate and a pair of Chortens, marking the entrance to Tengboche village. Nestled across a wide, grassy saddle below a crescent-shaped ridge adorned with scrub pines and rhododendrons, Tengboche village awaits.

The focal point of Tengboche is the renowned Tengboche monastery. After checking in at your accommodation, head out to explore the monastery.

Day 6 : Tengboche to Dingboche

Descending along the trail, surrounded by a dense forest of conifers, birch, and rhododendrons, you’ll arrive at Debouche. Cross the roaring Imja Khola river and continue following the trail towards the Imja Valley. Eventually, you’ll reach the village of Pangboche, nestled at an elevation of 3900 meters, marking the highest permanent settlement in this valley.

From Pangboche, the tree line fades away as you enter high mountain terrain with arid landscapes. Following a ledge above the river, the trail crosses a wooden bridge at the confluence of the Khumbu and Imja Khola rivers. A short, steep climb then brings you to Dingboche, situated at 4530 meters. Dingboche serves as a summer settlement and offers breathtaking views of prominent peaks including Ama Dablam, the ridge of Nuptse-Lhotse, Tawoche, and Cholatse.

Day 7 : Acclimatization day at Dingboche

Today marks your second day of acclimatization. Before dawn, venture towards a vantage point to witness the stunning sunrise over the Himalayas. Following lunch, embark on a journey towards Nangkartsang Peak, offering one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Khumbu region. The ascent is relatively easy with no technical difficulties, but the altitude may pose challenges, so proceed at a gentle pace and take frequent rests.

Upon reaching the summit, soak in the breathtaking panoramic views of the landscape. Marvel at the vast Imja valley and the majestic peaks including Mt. Makalu (8,463m), Lhotse (8,749m), Cho Oyu (8,201m), Island Peak (6,189m), Ama Dablam (6,812m), Kangtega (6,782m), Thamserku (6,623m), Taboche (6,542m), Cholatse (6,440m), among countless others, as well as the Imja Glacier. After exploring the area and absorbing the serene energy, retrace your steps back towards Dingboche.

Day 8 : Dingboche Chhukung and Hike Chhukung

Today, you’ll be crossing another mountain pass, traversing through high mountain terrain with arid landscapes and rocky trails until you reach the settlement of Chhukung. After a brief rest in Chhukung, prepare to ascend Chhukung Ri. The climb to the Ri is non-technical, but altitude can be challenging for some, so it’s important to take frequent rests and stay hydrated.

Upon reaching the summit of Chhukung Ri, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Marvel at the beauty of the valley and the majestic peaks including Ama Dablam, Imja Tse, Nuptse, Makalu, Lhotse, Cholaste, Tawache peak, Kantega peak, Thamserku, and Baruntse, standing tall in their grandeur. After exploring and soaking in the breathtaking views, retrace your steps back towards Chhukung.

Day 9 : Chhukung to Lobuche Via Kongma-la

Today’s trek will take you across the most challenging mountain pass yet, so it’s essential to start early to avoid the deteriorating mountain weather later in the day. After breakfast, head towards the trail that branches off from the main valley and begins to climb towards Kongma La. As you ascend, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the region: the ridge of Nuptse, the glaciers of Kongmatse ahead, and the rocky peak of Pokalde to your left.

Continuing your trek, you’ll come across a small lake. From here, a steep climb will take you to the summit of Kongma La pass, which stands at an elevation of 5,535 meters. At the top, enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, glaciers, icefalls, and lakes. The majestic white peaks of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Island Peak, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Everest, Pumori, Nuptse, and Lhotse dominate the landscape.

After a brief rest, begin your descent towards the Khumbu glacier moraine. Following the moraine will lead you to the village of Lobuche, a small yak pastureland with a few teahouses. From the porch of your teahouse, you can witness a magnificent sunset.

Day 10 : Lobuche to Gorak and Hike to Everest Base Camp

Today’s trek will take you across the most challenging mountain pass yet, so it’s essential to start early to avoid the deteriorating mountain weather later in the day. After breakfast, head towards the trail that branches off from the main valley and begins to climb towards Kongma La. As you ascend, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the region: the ridge of Nuptse, the glaciers of Kongmatse ahead, and the rocky peak of Pokalde to your left.

Continuing your trek, you’ll come across a small lake. From here, a steep climb will take you to the summit of Kongma La pass, which stands at an elevation of 5,535 meters. At the top, enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, glaciers, icefalls, and lakes. The majestic white peaks of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Island Peak, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Everest, Pumori, Nuptse, and Lhotse dominate the landscape.

After a brief rest, begin your descent towards the Khumbu glacier moraine. Following the moraine will lead you to the village of Lobuche, a small yak pastureland with a few teahouses. From the porch of your teahouse, you can witness a magnificent sunset.

Day 11 : Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar and to Dzongla

Today, wake up before dawn and head towards the famous vantage point of the Khumbu region, Kala Patthar, at an elevation of 5,545 meters. Although high in altitude, the climb is non-technical. Upon reaching the summit, enjoy stunning views of Everest, Pumori, Nuptse, Changtse, Ama Dablam, Taweche, Kantega, Lhotse, and even Everest Base Camp nestled at the base of the Khumbu Icefall. After spending some time at the summit, retrace your steps back to Gorak Shep.

After a brief rest at Gorak Shep, continue your journey onward to Dzongla, located at the base of Cho-La Pass.

Day 12: Dzongla to Thangnak Via Cho-la pass

After an early breakfast, head to Thangnak. The path takes you westward from Dzongla and makes its way towards the formidable Cho-La Pass, situated at an altitude of 5,420 meters. The ascent to the highest point of the valley will test your endurance and strength. However, the stunning views of Chola Lake and Mt. Ama Dablam will make it all worth it. The climb will be challenging, as the rocks may be icy and rugged, but the exhilaration of reaching the top of the pass will be unmatched. After enjoying the spectacular scenery, begin your descent towards Thangnak.

Day 13 : Thangnak to Gokyo

Today, you will head to the charming village of Gokyo, nestled at the foot of the imposing Mt. Gokyo. The trail promises an exciting journey, filled with awe-inspiring views of towering mountains.

As you start the trek, you will continue uphill on a scenic trail that offers a spectacular vista of Tanjung Tsho Lake, situated at an altitude of 4,710 meters. Next, the trail will take you along the edge of the Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in Nepal, stretching over 36 km. After crossing the glacier, you will be greeted by breathtaking views of Gokyo Lake. As you make your way towards the village of Gokyo, soak in the serenity and beauty of the surroundings.

Day 14 : Explore Gokyo visit the fifth lake then climb Gokyo Ri

Today, you will explore the wonders of the Gokyo region. Before dawn, witness the Himalayan sunrise. After breakfast, head out to explore the series of Gokyo Lakes. This region is home to the world’s highest freshwater lake system, comprising six main lakes and associated wetlands covering 7,770 ha (30.0 sq mi), designated as a Ramsar site. The lakes hold cultural significance and are visited by Hindu and Buddhist devotees during various festivals.

Start by exploring the emerald green lakes near the teahouse. Then, head out to explore the fourth Gokyo Lake, located 3 km north of Gokyo Village. Continue trekking towards the fifth lake. The view from ‘Scoundrel’s Viewpoint,’ located at the edge of the fifth lake, is astonishing, offering majestic views of Cho-Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makalu, as well as the immense Ngozumpa Glacier. Spend the day strolling around the lakes and visiting other sacred lakes.

For an alternative acclimatization excursion, head towards Gokyo Ri. Gokyo Ri is the highlight of the Gokyo Valley and an epic vantage point for mountain views. Start by traversing the stream on the northern end of the village and ascending for a couple of hours to reach the summit, marked by a cradle of prayer flags. The climb is non-technical, but the altitude may pose a challenge, so take it slow and rest frequently. From the summit, enjoy splendid panoramic views of Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse, and Taboche, with the Ngozumpa Glacier cutting across the landscape. Admire the series of emerald green lakes below. After soaking in the majestic views, retrace your steps back to the village.

Day 16 : Marlung to Monjo Via Namche Bazaar

Begin your day early, before dawn, to embark on your final high pass of the trek. Following the banks of Dudh Pokhari, a high glacier lake, start your trek. From the lake, head on a downward trail towards the base of the pass. Along the way, witness grand views of the Mahalangur Himalayan and Rolwaling ranges and other endless peaks. The climb to the summit of the pass involves traversing an inclined surface. Upon reaching the pass, you will be greeted with views of the third Gokyo Lake and Gokyo Village beneath the gray smear of the Ngozumpa Glacier.

From the pass, the path winds down a stone staircase and then moves over loose scree to reach the south bank of Angladumba Tsho Lake. Along the way, enjoy views of Relama Tsho and Renjo Lake. Traversing along a narrow valley clogged with giant boulders, you will reach the isolated settlement of Lumde. From here, about an hour’s hike will lead you to the settlement of Marlung, nestled on the east bank of the Bhote Koshi River.

Next, scale the Renjo La Pass. As you ascend, you will be greeted with mesmerizing views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse, and Taboche. Upon reaching the top of Renjo La Pass, you will be rewarded with panoramic 360-degree views of the majestic Mt. Cho-Oyu and other towering peaks. Take a moment to catch your breath and soak in the stunning surroundings before continuing your journey.

The next part of the trek will take you to the frozen lakes below Renjo La Pass, adding to the already breathtaking scenery. As you make your way downhill towards the small village of Lungdeng, relish the tranquil ambiance of the surroundings. The trail will then lead you to Marlung village, situated just above the Bhote Koshi River.

Day 17 : Monjo to Lukla

Following the downward track, cross lush sections of woodlands, raging river networks, and various settlements as you head towards Monjo. Upon reaching the settlement, rest and relax.

Day 18 : Lukla to Kathmandu

The flights to Kathmandu are usually scheduled for the morning for safety purposes. After reaching Kathmandu, head towards your accommodation and rest. Today, you can take a guided tour of the city or explore on your own. In the evening, attend a farewell dinner to celebrate the successful completion of your trek.

Day 19 : Final departure

Today, bid your goodbyes to Nepal and the friends you made along the journey. A company representative will pick you up from your hotel and drop you off at the airport three hours before your scheduled flight.
