DESCRIPTION
The Langtang Valley trek is the third most popular trekking destination, located closest to Kathmandu Valley. Nestled in the heart of the greater Himalayas, the valley is dissected by a river system and features high-altitude glaciers, glacial lakes, Himalayan valleys, high pasture lands, lush forests, and raging rivers, all contributing to its rich biodiversity. Langtang Valley is a paradise, clinging to the mountainside amid the frozen peaks of the Himalayas. It falls within Langtang National Park, Nepal’s first Himalayan national park. The northern boundary of the park borders Tibet, while the western boundary is defined by the Bothe Koshi and Trishuli rivers, encompassing an area of 1,710 square kilometers across the three districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Sindhupalchowk.
ITINERARY

Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu
After breakfast, embark on a guided tour of the Kathmandu Valley, rich in history, architecture, and culture. The valley offers a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Tibetan Buddhism.
First, visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, the epicenter of religious and cultural life, filled with old temples and palaces of historical significance and glorious architecture. Highlights include Kal Bhairav, Hanuman Dhoka, Taleju Temple, Kasthamandap, and Kumari Ghar, the home of the Living Goddess.
Next, head to Swoyambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple. This ancient Buddhist stupa, set high on a hill, offers panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley and the mountain ranges to the north.
Proceed to Pashupatinath Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This vast temple complex sits alongside the holy Bagmati River. Only Hindus are allowed to enter the temple courtyard, but tourists can view the temple from the eastern side of the river.
Finally, visit Boudhanath, another significant Buddhist stupa and one of the largest in the world. This massive structure, with its four pairs of eyes facing the cardinal directions, watches over the righteous behavior and prosperity of humanity.
Meals: Breakfast, Welcome Dinner.
Day 3: Drive to Syabrubesi
Today, after breakfast, head towards Syabrubesi on the winding roads north of Kathmandu Valley. The drive, approximately 132 kilometers, takes you through bustling riverside settlements, terraced fields, and the lush green hills of central Nepal, offering scenic views of mountain ranges as you follow the Trishuli River.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 4: Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel
Today marks the first day of your trek, taking you through various natural wonders. Begin by crossing a suspension bridge over the Bhote Koshi and head towards the village of Old Syabrubesi. Visit the ancient monastery located in a small stone building at the far end of the village. After exploring the monastery, follow the stone-paved route out of town to a bridge over the Langtang Khola.
After crossing the bridge, follow the trail towards Doman, traversing lush forests, various streams, suspension bridges, waterfalls, and a landslide-prone area. Continue towards Bamboo, passing through a few settlements and dense woodlands, where you might spot unique wildlife such as yellow-throated martens, wild boars, langur monkeys, red pandas, Himalayan black and brown bears, musk deer, barking deer, and numerous birds.
As you progress, ascend a rocky ridge and then descend towards the river, where you’ll notice a small hot spring on the banks of the freezing waters. From here, Bamboo is just a few minutes away.
From Bamboo, the trail crosses the Dangdung Khola and then climbs past a small landslide to a suspension bridge over the Langtang Khola. On the northern bank of the Langtang Khola, the route climbs alongside a series of waterfalls across hills, crossing sub-tropical wet hill forests of oaks and a mixture of conifers. At Rimche, cross a steep section and head towards Upper Renche, and finally to the settlement of Changtang, popularly known as Lama Hotel.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 5: Lama Hotel to Langtang Valley
Today’s trail is filled with wonders. Start early by climbing through a steep forest of hemlocks, oaks, maples, and white and pink rhododendrons, high above the Langtang Khola, to reach the settlement of Gumanchok. Then, cross a stream and climb steeply to a pass marked with prayer flags to reach Ghora Tabela, which now serves as a Nepal Army and National Park Post.
The trail ascends gradually as the valley opens into a classic U-shape. Follow the trail across the Himalayan highlands and yak pastures, crossing through dense sections of rhododendron forests to reach the settlement of Thangshyap.
The route then climbs the hillside diagonally above the fields to reach Ghumba village, where you can explore the ancient gompas in the area. Next, the trail crosses a stream and climbs past several water-driven mills and prayer wheels to the large settlement of Langtang, the headquarters for Langtang National Park.
Huge twin waterfalls pour out of a cleft in the rock wall above the town, with the mighty Langtang in the backdrop. Once you reach Langtang, head to your accommodation. Later, explore the area, which is regarded as a bird’s paradise with over 350 species found around. You might spot hawks, drab-colored cuckoos, fruit-eating barbets, owls, laughing thrushes, red-billed and yellow-billed magpies, and parakeets.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 6: Langtang Valley to Kyanjin Gompa
Today, you’ll be traversing through the Himalayan highlands. The trail winds through the village and climbs a ridge topped by a large chorten. Follow the trail past rows of Mani walls and cross a stream leading to the small village of Mundu.
The trail then joins the rushing icy river and ascends towards Yamphu, a settlement with a yak wool shop and yak pastureland. After a short walk and a small ascent from Yamphu, you’ll finally reach the village of Kyanjin Gompa, where dramatic glaciers tumble down from the peaks of Langtang Lirung and Kimshung.
After checking into your accommodation, head out to explore the monasteries and cafes in the area.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 7: Kyanjin Gompa to Tsergo Ri
Today’s hike is tough and long, so start early. Follow the trail on the eastern end of the village towards Langshisha Kharka. Cross the stream, then branch left by a cairn up the side valley to steep hills. Take the higher trail and ascend to a ridge, gaining altitude quickly. Since altitude can be challenging, take it slow, allowing time to rest and enjoy the views.
At the halfway point, take the left trail. The trail traverses through a boulder field and loose rocks, so take caution. Following the trail, you’ll reach the summit of Tsergo Ri. From the summit, witness magnificent views of Yala Peak, Langtang Ri, Langtang Lirung, Naya Khang, Gangchempo, and glaciers spanning the entire valley. After spending time at the summit basking in the wonders of nature, retrace your steps back to Kyanjin Gompa.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 8: Kyanjin Gompa to Ghora Tabela
After breakfast, set out on the trail, retracing your steps back to the settlement of Ghora Tabela. Pass through various villages and navigate through dense woodlands blanketed with wildflowers. Explore various monasteries along the way. Once you reach Ghora Tabela, head to your accommodation and rest.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 9: Ghora Tabela to Syabrubesi
Today marks the last day of your trek. Depart from Lama Hotel and head towards the bustling settlement of Syabrubesi, traversing across the central hills of Nepal known as the Mahabharat range. As you progress on the trail, keep an eye out to witness the biodiversity of the area and sense the scale and beauty of the old-growth forest.
Once you reach Syabrubesi, head to your accommodation and celebrate the success of your trek.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 10: Syabrubesi back Kathmandu
